Higuaín: Real Madrid Are Ready For A Title Comeback

Post by egzonn on Fri Jan 16, 2009 2:10 am

Confidence in the Real Madrid camp is running high after three successive victories rocketed the team back to second place in the standings following a traumatic end to 2008 when they found themselves out of the top four.

Los Merengues, however, are still a huge 12 points behind league leaders and arch nemesis, Barcelona, but a number of the ‘Men in White’ confidently believe that the team will lift the Primera División title at the end of the season. And one of them includes Gonzalo Higuaín.

“I am sure that we will be able to complete a comeback. Real Madrid were going through a difficult period when I first arrived and we eventually won the league title,” he told the club’s official radio channel.

“Barcelona currently have a big lead over us and they are enjoying a great season, but we are the defending champions and we will do our best to win again,” he added.

The Argentine hot-shot is also optimistic about Madrid’s chances of claiming the elusive ‘Number 10’: Champions League glory.

“Our next rival in the Champions League [Liverpool] are one of the favourites to win the title and we must be very focused in our clashes in order to win.

“But just like I believe we can make a comeback a win La Liga, I also believe we can win the Champions League this year. We are certainly going to try,” he stressed.

Higuaín then went on to assure that the confidence has returned to the team following the appointment of Juande Ramos, although he refused to compare the new coach to his old trainer, Bernd Schuster.

“Each coach has their own methods and our previous coach helped us win La Liga and the Supercopa.

“However, we now have a more solid squad and we all feel comfortable. We have not conceded in our last three games and our defence should be congratulated for it. We are also scoring goals, so I think we are finally on the right path,” he concluded.

Madrid will play host to basement boys, Osasuna, on Sunday, 1700 CET.
