    Chelsea Chasing Carlos Tevez?

Post by egzonn on Fri Jan 16, 2009 2:17 am

Chelsea are planning a sensational swoop for Manchester United forward Carlos Tevez in the summer, according to a report in the British tabloid The Daily Star.

The Argentine international, who has scored seven goals in 44 caps, is currently on loan at Old Trafford until the end of the season and, as yet, the Red Devils have not secured his services for the long term.

The Blues are therefore hoping to persuade the 5ft 6.5in striker to move south to London and believe they can land their man for a fee in the region of €22.5 million (£20 m).

The news may well signal the end of Didier Drogba's career at Stamford Bridge as it is reported that Chelsea are confident they will also sign Sevilla's Brazilian international, Luis Fabiano, to partner 'Apache' in attack.

"Chelsea like Tevez very much and he will be their major summer target, along with Fabiano, who is almost certain to arrive," an inside source is quoted as saying.

Although Tevez has become more familiar to the substitutes bench at Man United since the arrival of Dimitar Berbatov, the recent injury to Wayne Rooney should see him play a pivotal role in the next few games.

Whether he has a future at Old Trafford beyond this season is less clear as the Red Devils have had plenty of time to tie up a permanent deal before now, and with the likes of Danny Welbeck and Fraizer Campbell emerging United could decide on the cheaper options.
